The name of William Damario Lukito became the center of attention during the Bandung Institute of Technology ( ITB ) Third Graduation event in July 2022.
The reason is, out of 538 master's degree graduates , he was listed as the best, youngest, and fastest graduate.
William is a student from the Telecommunications Engineering Option, School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering ( STEI ) ITB .
Among ITB students , especially Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering is one of the most difficult study programs in this faculty and is not the student's main preference.
However, not with William Damario Lukito who successfully graduated from the Telecommunications Engineering Option with a GPA of 4.00.
William Damario Lukito being the only STEI master student was mentioned by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (WRAM) ITB Prof. Dr. Ir Jaka Sembiring, M.Eng., as a graduate with a perfect GPA, 4.00.
Only completed in less than 1 year, this young man completed his thesis research under the Radio Telecommunication and Microwave Laboratory (LTRGM- ITB ).
The man who is familiarly called William was born in Bekasi in 2000. When he graduated from his master's degree , he was only 22 years old.
One of the reasons William was able to finish his studies at a relatively young age, was because he followed the Fast Track program (PPSM: Masters Degree Unification Program) which was provided by ITB .
PPSM is an ITB program that allows final year undergraduate students to take master's degree courses .
This program is open to all ITB students who meet the requirements, according to the policies of their respective faculties.
William is an alumnus of the 2017 ITB Telecommunication Engineering S-1 who just graduated with Cum Laude predicate in July 2021 yesterday.
Under the guidance of Effrina Yanti Hamid, ST, MT, Ph.D., William completed his thesis research entitled "Principal Component Analysis for Optimization of Modulation Classification Models Based on Support Vector Machine Algorithms".
In the history of his studies, William is also a graduate of the acceleration program in high school and after that he made his choice at STEI - ITB .
When asked why he chose the ITB campus , William explained that his father had a very big influence on his decision.
“My father is also an ITB alumnus . I got a lot of influence and direction from my father regarding studies. Since I was a toddler, I have been taken around the ITB campus several times for walks," William said as quoted from the official ITB website .
When he was in junior high school, William was invited to visit Sabuga to see the ITB graduation venue . During school, he dreamed of becoming an ITB student .
"So, when it was time for me to choose a university during high school, I didn't think twice about choosing STEI ITB . When it was announced that I was accepted, it was a very happy day for me," said the eldest of 2 siblings, completing his explanation.
During his master's study yesterday, apart from being busy with lectures and being an assistant in several courses, William also participated in one of the collaborative activities between LAPI ITB and the Balitbang of the Ministry of Defense.
William also advised his colleagues at ITB to stay enthusiastic and always be grateful. Because not everyone has the same opportunities as them.
When asked what steps he would take after graduation, William admitted that he wanted to continue his studies at the doctoral level.
