Growing Robusta Coffee

Growing Robusta Coffee

villageflowersCoffee plant (Coffea sp.) is a species of tree-shaped plant that belongs to the Rubiaceae family and the Cofeea genus. Coffee plants grow upright, branched, and if allowed to grow can reach a height of 12 meters. The leaves are oval with slightly tapered ends.

The leaves of the plant are opposite on the stem, branches and twigs. Many types of coffee are currently circulating, but not all coffee is able to provide its own enjoyment for the lover.

Robusta coffee is currently the most popular coffee lover around the world. The type of rubusta coffee plant is the easiest for us to cultivate both in the yard, plantations and even in pots.

Because this plant does not require several ingredients that are quite difficult for farmers.

The land that will be used to grow Robusta coffee will of course determine the quality of the coffee. The more precise the land chosen, the final results that will be obtained will of course also be satisfactory.

This is something that needs to be considered for those who want to start cultivating robusta coffee. The best soil pH ranges from 4-6 which can be adjusted with the application of organic fertilizer to adjust the quality of the soil to make it suitable for growing robusta coffee. We recommend that in areas where robusta coffee is grown, shade trees should be provided.

Can be a sengon tree that has a faster growth. In addition, the leaves from the shade tree can also be used as a natural fertilizer that is able to provide good nutrients for the needs of the robusta coffee plant.

Shade plants are also useful for adjusting the temperature in the area around Robusta coffee plants. Because the right temperature will also make robusta coffee plants grow well, the temperature ranges from 23-35 cc.

Robusta coffee is cultivated in lowland areas with a rain capacity of 2,500 mm per year. Tropical and humid areas are also good for us to grow robusta coffee. Success in robusta coffee cultivation will be influenced by the seeds that we will use. Good and quality seeds will certainly produce abundant fruit.

Vice versa, the selection of seeds is bad, the results that will be obtained will be unsatisfactory. this is to make sure If the seeds that we are going to buy really come from superior quality seeds.

There are many types of robusta coffee seeds that can be used as a reference, namely clone Bp 308 which is a superior robusta coffee seed and is more resistant to various diseases.

This type of seed will also be easier to adapt to a new environment, even if we plant it on soil that lacks nutrients. These seeds are able to survive perfectly.

The Bp 42 clone is a type of robusta coffee seed that has a higher productivity level. Some farmers who have succeeded in cultivating clones of Bp 42 seeds per hectare of coffee are able to produce up to 1,300 kg/year. Klon Sa 436 is the most superior robusta coffee seed.

Because in one hectare, if the fruit is normal, it can produce up to 3,000 Kg/year. However, apart from having advantages in terms of shape, the coffee produced is not uniform. Some are small, some are large in size. They are not evenly distributed even in one tree trunk.

Robusta coffee breeding can be done in various ways, one of which is by seeding from seeds, stem cuttings and grafts. However, the best and fastest results are if robusta coffee seedlings are produced by grafting.

In addition to better seed yields, it will bear fruit faster when compared to the nursery method which is classified as requiring a lot of time and energy. After all the necessary materials have been prepared, such as land, superior quality coffee seeds and other materials that may be needed such as fertilizer.

Then robusta coffee cultivation can be done. If the seeds used are from seed seedlings that come from polybags, then before planting, remove the plastic wrap/polybag, trim the leaf stems if there are seeds that have too many leaf stems, leave only 2-3 leaves to facilitate evaporation and seeds fast growing. especially at the roots.

Make a hole that we have adjusted to the size of the polybag, for example 1 mx 1 m for each hole, don't forget before planting the seeds you should sprinkle the hole using compost for approximately 2 months, leave the hole open. 1 month before we plant the seeds.

We sprinkle the dug hole with sulfur and lime with a dose of 150 grams / hole for each sulfur and dolomite lime, then 1/2 month before we plant robusta coffee seeds, give compost fertilizer into the dug hole that we will use,
