The Department of Communication and Information of the City of Balikpapan has the task of carrying out the formulation and implementation of policies on Regional Government affairs and auxiliary tasks in the fields of Communication and Information, Statistics, Encryption and Telecommunications and LPSE.

Formulation of policies in the field of information management, ICT development, e-Government development, coding, sectoral statistics, post and telecommunications and LPSE;
Implementation of policies in the field of information management, ICT development and e-Government development, coding, sectoral statistics, post and telecommunications, E-government Development and LPSE;
Implementation of evaluation and reporting in the fields of information management, ICT development, e-Government development, coding, sectoral statistics, postal and telecommunications as well as LPSE;
Implementation of Service Administration;
Implementation of Other Tasks given by superiors/leaders in accordance with applicable regulations.
Formed based on Balikpapan City Regulation Number 2 of 2016 concerning Formation and Composition of Regional Apparatuses in 2016 concerning Formation and Composition of Regional Apparatuses with Description of Duties and Functions based on Balikpapan Mayor Regulation Number 55 of 2016 concerning Description of Duties and Functions of the Balikpapan City Communication and Information Office. Before becoming a Regional Apparatus, duties and functions were attached to the Organization and Management Section as well as from the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the City of Balikpapan and the Department of Transportation.
