The Impact of Technology on People's Social Life

Society and the social environment cannot be separated, as we know that humans are social creatures who need each other. In sociology, it is stated that humans are social creatures who cannot live alone, humans must communicate with each other and interact directly with each other.

However, if we look at the existing facts, the social life of today's society, it seems that the term social creature which contains elements of direct interaction and communication must be studied and re-examined. Times and technology have changed the patterns and systems of modern society's social life. Technology that has experienced a very significant growth explicitly has a huge impact on the social life of today's people.

The emergence of social media and communication tools that are all effective and efficient is one of the factors that has resulted in the birth of individual and selfish humans. People tend to do things that are more pragmatic to interact socially. Making direct social contact is assumed to be something complicated, not profitable, a waste of time and even said to be out of date.

In addition to technological advances that provide various vehicles to speed up communication between individuals. One of the factors that causes the decline in social society is the motion of no confidence in their own environment, even in the closest sphere such as family, neighbors and the work environment. This is because there are many criminal acts that generally occur precisely because of the people around the environment so that people tend to choose to do everything themselves or through communication tools to interact without having to meet and meet face to face.

We can get a small example, for example in the office, all of them are busy outside of their jobs, which are busy for fuel and Facebook. At home, everyone is busy with Facebook and BBM or even cooler, Twitter, on the bus, people are busy, again BBM, Facebook and Twitter. Humans now tend to be no longer sensitive to the circumstances around them.

Communication and social interaction in a family, environment both at home and in the office seem more selfish and individualistic. At home, the mother is busy using BBM with her friends, the father is busy twittering with his colleagues, the child is busy with Facebook and online games, so there is no intense communication with each other, there is no openness between the wife and the husband. husband, father / mother and son, on the bus no one pays attention to the person beside him, they are busy pressing the Blackberry button while laughing and then replying to messages from their friends. No longer seeing whether the person beside him is beautiful, handsome, ugly, terrorist, even seriously ill, there are only those with social media.

As Pope Brenedict XVI pointed out on the 45th World Communications Day, technology makes it possible to meet each other beyond the confines of their own space and culture, by creating an entirely new world of potential friendships, but it is important to always remember virtual contact cannot and should not replace direct human contact with people at every level of our lives. No matter how sophisticated the technology that can create practical communication and interaction, direct contact is still fundamental for humans. Direct interaction and communication will create emotional bonds between humans and are of much higher quality compared to virtual communication and interactions that are presented in almost all lines of technology.

Communicating and interacting without looking at each other or meeting is indeed very practical and efficient, but we need to realize that humans are born as social beings who must communicate and interact with people around them directly to create a healthy and balanced social life so that there is no selfish social life. and individualist.
